The World Tour of Urban Dances in 10 cities

In this danced conference, Ana Pi offers us a world tour of urban dances in a spectacular and educational way.

Without pretending to be exhaustive, she offers an overview: Krump in Los Angeles, Dancehall in Kingston, Pantsula in Johannesburg or Voguing in New York…

Ana Pi evokes the geographical, social and cultural context linked to these dances, and the specific characteristics of each movement. This transmission allows us to become aware of the origin of each of the dances and how they are connected to the diversity of African dances, which migrated in the bodies of people who suffered the condition imposed by the slave system, and of people who for economic reasons had to migrate from their original territory to expanding cities. The great cities of the world where they are invented are cosmopolitan cities, forged by waves of deportation and immigration. These dances bear witness to the complexity of these histories, while also being a source of collective healing and emancipation.
