Parklands

PARKLANDS tells the story. In the district of Fives, the Lille-based company La Lune, which is growling, invites us to follow a route through the city, the first militant route of high school students for the defense of the living.

Initially, there is the mobilization of survivors of the Parkland (Texas) massacre in 2018. Very young people rose up the day after the tragedy against the NRA gun lobby, and gave new impetus to the fight for a ban on firearms in the United States. Then there are the new ecological movements: climate strikes in high schools, Extinction Rebellion, and now Last Renovation. PARKLANDS recounts the movement of high school students who research how to trigger a strong political response to an urgent and massive public health problem: air pollution. In this common struggle there is naivety, some conflicts, loves, courage and a lot of hope. The three performers put on multiple characters, carry the story, sing a capella and invite the audience to take part in the performance.

Biography(s)

Yes, the latest IPCC reports are alarming, you know. The house is burning. Yes. But then what do we do? As an artist, what can we do? Does it still make sense to work? And on what? How?
Alert.
Come out of shock.
Make people want to act, to think.
Work outside and feel the rain, the cold, the sun, the heat wave, the night that falls.
Do not forget the seasons or the sky.
Do not forget the forest or the sea.
Think strong about the stars and strong about the moon.
Meet outside, with the public and also all those who do not know themselves yet public, passers-by who did not know that we were coming.
Enjoying being together for a while.
Sticking together in the face of hard work.
Questioning the meaning we give it.
Reinvent it.
Go looking elsewhere if you are there, meet other workers, scientists, lawyers, activists, collaborate with artists of other disciplines, a musician, a choreographer, an author, circassian.ne. s, a visual artist, working in Belgium with authors.ice. s, performers, places of production.
Imagine new ways of working. Ways of working with others. To make theatre with others. To invent in game how it plays.
With the youngest, teach them to be together, inventive, imaginative, teach them things about the world as it runs to its loss, about the Living One and its unsuspected resilient forces, teach them to play a choral theatre that represents all this.
Theatre is not an answer, not even a question.
He tells. In the end, he doesn’t need much: interpreters, an audience, that’s all.
A place where you don’t need much is still something. It’s beautiful.
