la grotte

The choreographic work of Pol Pi involves the idea of metamorphosis, of becoming other. In la grotte, he composes a choreography in the form of a guided tour, as an entryway for connecting to human and non-human existences.

In 2021, Pol Pi met the Grotte des Combarelles, a cave in Dordogne, where more than 600 drawings are still visible on its walls, created nearly 13,000 years ago. During several immersions in the cave, he set about giving body and voice to the engraved figures: here, the back of a lioness, here, the head of a horse, the outline of a female figure… At the same time, he discovered self-induced cognitive trance as a creative tool: a way of entering into resonance with other states, other voices, other uses of his body. In la grotte, which will premiere at Latitudes Contemporaines, Pol shares with us a journey at the crossroad of an archeological dig and a fertility ritual. la grotte sets the intention of disturbing gender beyond what’s human, and to delve deeply into the potential for metamorphosis of the body.
