Biography(s)
Marie HOUDIN
Marie was initially a funkstyle dancer (locking, electric boogaloo). She co-founded Engrenage[s] in 2004 in Rennes. After choreographing and co-choreographing a dozen shows, in different formats, in 2014 she wrote: “The Unexpected Dance”. An artistic project and research around a heritage of dances from African diasporas and American natives. Her approach focuses on the restorative, unifying and constructive value of dance in its social dimension. In particular, it develops giant invitations to dance in public and non-designated spaces. Since 2018, she travels to meet dances and collect stories of dances between Senegal, Cuba and New Orleans. Trips that feed a digital video and sound project, and international artistic exchanges, like a project made in 2021: “New Orleans Fever”.
Main shows, projects and invitations to dance, created or co-created since 2015: “New Orleans Fever”, Bal du “Tout-Monde”, “Unexpected”, “Get Down”, “Groove Nation”, “Soul Train géant”, “Red Line Crossers – Hommage aux Second Line”, “We Are” with Red Line Crossers and “Pebble”.
