Laboratoire Poison is the theatrical revival of four research laboratories dealing with important resistance movements through history. A monument of documentary theatre, and a powerful homage to our continuing fight for freedom.
How does a hero become a hero? And how does a traitor become a traitor? For more than 5 years, the director Adeline Rosenstein has been doing wide-ranging research on the ones who are fighting and who have fought for freedom. In Laboratoire Poison, she uses the material she obtained through this research into four tableaux vivants. We see images of the Belgian communist resistance to the German Occupation, then the battle for Algerian independence after Algeria was colonized by France, and the battle of Congo, colonized by Belgium. The final episode underlines and explores the absence of women from these stories, through narratives of ex-fighters of Amilcar Cabral’s PAIGC in Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde. There are twelve performers, and the stories are a theatrical observation of the relationships of domination, violence and resistance in anti‑colonial history. An immersive, passionate experience, which leads us with intelligence and humor into the complexities of these political resistance movements.
This show mentions acts of violence that might be difficult to hear for some people.

She has been living in Schaerbeek for 12 years and between 2011 and 2016, Rosenstein created six episodes of the series décris-ravage about the Palestinian issue (first in Berlin and then in Brussels), and since 2017 she has been working on the triptych Laboratoire Poison, portraying various resistance movements. She occasionally works in art and theatre schools.
