POL PI & SOLISTENENSEMBLE KALEIDOSKOP

What happens inside the body of a musician when she is playing? How does music permeate bodies, travel through them? The score for IN YOUR HEAD acts as an intemediary between the language of musical notes and the language of the bodies.

Intending to reveal what seems to be the true soul, the incarnation of music, the choreographer Pol Pi, himself a trained musician, explores, along with four female musicians of the Berlin group Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop – the score to Shostakovich’s Quartet No. 8. Together they create a series of portraits which resonate closely with the music. Guiding even the breaths taken by the performers, each finger or limb movement, the score creates a link between Shostakovich’s intentions and those of the present. In this crossover between physical lifts and other movement, we are privileged to see a subtle choreographic work which reveals the music, allowing us to hear the movement.
