Tout doit disparaître

Philosophizing is about learning to die. Stéphanie Aflalo takes the saying quite literally, offering with Tout doit disparaître training for the process of mourning, with philosophical maxims and practical exercises to support it.

Having explored and turned around the rules of the game in philosophy, as well as thoughts on art, Stéphanie Aflalo addresses in this third section of her “Philosophical recreations the fundamentals of tragic thinking. Setting up a screen above the stage, Stéphanie interacts with her father’s video image, dispensing crumbs of antique wisdom from the television set she locked him up in. She will grow older with each show, while he will remain forever unchanged in the mini-DV tape. Derrida said, Each time is unique, the end of the world, evoking the internal deflagration caused by the loss of a loved one. Tout doit disparaître is an attempt, no matter how obstinate and desperate –  to address the impossible.
