Radio live — vivantes

Ranging from radio to theatre, Radio live has carried the voices of the youth movement for more than ten years. For this new staged section, there are four women, from Syria, Bosnia, Ukraine and Israel, telling their stories and evoking their battles.

At the beginning there were these amazing radio series by Aurélie Charon (a producer at France Culture) and Caroline Gillet (a producer at France Inter), dealing with a range of young voices, young activists whom they encountered all over the world. They wanted to bring them together in the same place, at the same time. Since 2013, Radio live has built a dialogue between sounds and filmed images, all produced live by Amélie Bonnin (a director and screenwriter), of young people from here, from there, from far away, bringing their life stories onstage. In 2021, a new cycle of this collective project began, integrating filmed images where the generations met each other. Now, in the spring of 2024, they are creating a new episode, Radio live – Vivantes, a collective story with four thirty-something women from Syria, Bosnia, Ukraine and Israel. It is a tale of contemporary conflicts, of rage and tenderness which remain unexpectedly intact. In a scenographic installation alternating between radiophonic ambience and documentary images, this multi-faceted performance is an exploration of memory, identities, commitment and the transmission of stories between generations.

Biography(s)

AURÉLIE CHARON
Aurélie Charon is a producer at France Culture and hosts Tous en Scène, a live performance magazine (Saturdays 8pm). She also coordinates the radiophonic creation space L’expérience (Sundays 10pm + podcast). She graduated from Sciences Po Paris, ParisIII and NYU and has since produced documentary series on activist youth for Radio France, including Underground Democracy in Gaza, Teheran, Alger and Moscow. She initiated a long work process on French youth with Une série française (2015 France Inter), Jeunesse 2016 (France Culture) and the movie La Bande des Français alongside Amélie Bonnin for France 3 (2017). She also has recounted her travels in her book “C’était pas mieux avant, ce sera mieux après” , which was published by L’Iconoclaste. With Caroline Gillet and Amélie Bonnin, by her side, they created the project «Radio live, une nouvelle génération sur scène» (A new generation on stage), in order to adapt her documentaries to the stage. Radio Live production was thus created with Mathilde Gamon.

AMÉLIE BONNIN
Her work is at the meeting point of several disciplines. After her graphic design studies in Paris and Montreal, she enrolled in a scenario writing formation at la Fémis. Depending on the project, she switches in between writing, video-making and drawing to elaborate stories. She directed two documentaries, La mélodie du boucher (arte), and La bande des Français (France 3, co-directed with Aurélie Charon). In 2021 she wrote Partir un jour, her first short-film fiction, a musical starring Bastien bouillon and Juliette Armanet, which granted her numerous prizes at different ceremonies (Audience Prize and best Music Prize at the Festival du court métrage de Clermont-Ferrand ; Critics Prize, Audience Prize and the Prize for best male interpretation at the Festival Off-courts Trouville ; Opening Film at the Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur (…)) .
In parallel of her work as a director-scenarist she has continued her work as an Artistic director, and is notably taking part in the making of La Déferlante, a French feminist magazine.
