Laissez-moi danser
Onstage: one woman, one body fighting to keep her balance. But around Nadia Ghadanfar, we can feel the crowds: in Laissez-moi danser, she becomes the vessel for the stories of dozens of women, each driven by male domination and a fierce desire for freedom.
Nadia Ghadanfar is an actress and director, with a Syrian father and a German mother. For several years she has shared her diverse heritage with groups of women from the Arab world, in spoken word and theatre workshops. Along with the writer Amandine Dhée, she has collected from these women a series of astonishing, often devastating stories, experiences channeling male domination and forbidden things. With her unique voice and body, Nadia Ghadanfar speaks for those we almost never hear: Laissez-moi danser tells us about the weight of norms and traditions, offering us an inexorable vitality, sharing this form of resistance, which demands the freedom to go out, to move, to dance.
