Dispak Dispac’h
“Dispak” (meaning ‘open, in disorder’) and “Dispac’h” (meaning ‘agitation, rebellion’): these two words in the Breton language are the starting point for Patricia Allio, in a piece which searches for truth beyond the world of laws and verdicts.
In 2018, Patricia Allio attended a session of the Permanent Tribunal of the Peoples addressing the violation of the rights of migrants and refugees in Europe. The director then imagined what might follow it, for her a strong response using theatre as a vehicle. The audience is invited to sit in a sort of agora looking like a giant world map, where words move, circulate. There is an actress, a dancer, an actor, militant civilians, activists and jurists telling us about the administrative and red tape hassles experienced by asylum seekers, revealing to us the dysfunction inherent in European migratory policies. In an immersive structure which dispenses with the separation between the stage and the house, Dispak Dispac’h seeks to create a space for resistance built on a foundation of “affective contagion.” An experience which places humanity at its center, opens a dialogue and celebrates what she calls “indisciplines” or insubordination.

Biography(s)
Patricia Allio, playwright, theater and film director, associated with the TNB in Rennes, likes to put the margin at the center, questioning our constructions of identity in order to reveal their mutating and binding virtualities. She has been writing for stage and screen since 2004, and since 2016 has been directing the ICE multidisciplinary encounters in Finistère on the theme of “self-portraiture in”, which she sees as a laboratory for relational identity in rural environments. The sharing of our vulnerability and the possibility of human connection are always at the heart of her proposals. She has made two films for the screen: Reconstitution d’une scène de chasse, selected notably at the Rotterdam Festival, and her first feature Brûler pour briller, a medieval queer fable about the search for the reliquary finger of Saint John the Baptist, selected at FID and doc Lisboa and presented at the Centre Pompidou in 2024. Currently on tour, her plays Dispak Dispac’h, Autoportrait à ma grand-mère and Habiter were recently presented at the Festival d’Avignon, in Paris at the Théâtre du Rond-Point, the Théâtre Silvia Monfort and the Centre Pompidou, as well as at the Maison de la danse in Lyon. Her texts are published by Éditions des Solitaires Intempestifs.
