Frontière Sans Front – essai I

What history has destroyed, gesture rebuilds in a burst of rebirth. In the great hall of the MUba, the Fine Arts Museum of Tourcoing, Mackenzy Bergile offers a glimpse of his upcoming choreographic work.

For Latitudes Contemporaines, Mackenzy Bergile is sketching the first outlines of Frontière Sans Front, a choreographic creation planned for 2027-2028. Accompanied by dancer and choreographer Cassandre Munoz, he creates a space where gesture becomes a bridge between stories and ideas. Mackenzy Bergile is a multi-faceted, self-taught artist who blends dance, music and poetry in a search that explores with great clarity the interactions between the intimate and the political. His choreographic style, which draws on traditional Haitian dance, hip-hop, jazz and contemporary dance, is characterised by a constant search for art as a transformative act. With Frontière sans front, Mackenzy Bergile continues his quest for a gesture in perpetual metamorphosis, free of genre, definition and name – a gesture that, with each rebirth, questions and transforms the world.

Biography(s)

Mackenzy Bergile is a self-taught artist of multiple talents, born in Paris and based in Lorient. His rich and eclectic journey combines dance, music, and poetry, deeply influenced by his Haitian and French roots. He explores with great lucidity the interactions between the intimate and the political, freeing himself from traditional academic frameworks to develop a unique bodily language, merging diverse movement styles, particularly through Haitian traditional dances, hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary dance.

His musical work, centered around the piano, blends Baroque influences with Vodou resonances, creating pieces that summon history and the invisible. Mackenzy has collaborated with prominent figures in contemporary dance, such as Emmanuel Eggermont and Boris Charmatz, and composed for many films and dance companies. These experiences have allowed him to challenge the boundaries of dance and engage in a constant exploration of art as a transformative act.

Alongside his artistic projects, he founded with Inès Mauricio the Domaine Mauricio Bergile, a research center set in the heart of nature, merging permaculture with artistic practices. Slated to open in 2027, this domain will serve as a creative laboratory where artists and researchers can develop their projects in harmony with the environment, while exploring the connections between art, nature, and sustainability.

Always with Inès Mauricio, he also co-created Regard Sur Le Geste, an editorial project dedicated to analyzing the motivations behind artistic action, offering a unique perspective on the profound meanings hidden behind each gesture.
