Latitudes Contemporaines

Latitudes Contemporaines, via its festival and its production structure, introduces artistic projects which are the mirror of our society. The cultural action team develops mediation projects that enable all audiences to encounter and interact with contemporary creation. To sparkle our audiences’ curiosity, to nourish their reflections, to stimulate critical thinking and to encourage civic emancipation : come and discover our cultural action projects.

During the festival

On June 18th at the Gare Saint-Sauveur, Le Bal du Tout-Monde invites you to travel, through dance, between West Africa, the Caribbean and the USA. The Bal needs a community of accomplices to carry the energy of the dances: choreographer Marie Houdin invites you to join her for a few hours of workshops before the show.
To participate, write to Léa Garcia, cultural action officer:

Come dance with us !

IN YOUR HEAD © Valentina Benigni

In connection with his two shows Schönheit ist Nebensache and IN YOUR HEAD presented at the festival, the choreographer Pol Pi will propose several workshop formats to question the place of the body in musical practice with different groups: future professional musicians, young music school students and deaf people.

In connection with the research for his show NECROPOLIS, the choreographer Arkadi Zaides will meet the young people involved in the journalistic and artistic production agency Labo 148, during a masterclass at La Condition Publique in Roubaix.

Since 2009, Latitudes Contemporaines has partnered with the Lille branch of ALEFPA (Association Laïque pour l’Education, la Formation, la Prévention et l’Autonomie) and offers the young people it accompanies professional internships to discover the jobs that bring the festival to life: technical set-up of the venues, preparation of the catering, reception of the artists and the public… The young people are also invited to discover a series of shows from the festival program.

All year long

→ With the children of the daycare Les Lutins à Lille

This year marks the beginning of a collaboration with the teams of the multi-accueil daycare center Les Lutins, supported by the association Innov’ Enfance and neighboring the offices of Latitudes Contemporaines. Soukeyna Gueye, an actress and cultural animator, alternating with the association, met with the children during different artistic and cultural awakening times, as part of the interactive pedagogy, between December and March 2023. This collaboration will continue during the festival with the choreographer Olga Dukhovnaya.

With the students of the Sonia Delaunay Vocational school for fashion and textile professions in Lomme

From January to April 2023, students from the Lycée professionnel des métiers de la mode et du textile Sonia Delaunay in Lomme took part in a series of artistic workshops combining hip-hop culture and costume design. These workshops were led by Solen Athanassopoulos, choreographer and dancer, Marion François, costume designer and AL20, singer-rapper-beatmaker. These workshops led to the presentation of the collective creation TIGHT on Thursday April 13 at the Lycée Sonia Delaunay. This project is supported by the call for projects PEPS dans les murs carried by the Hauts-de-France Region.

14 years of transsectorial collaboration with the ALEFPA (Laic association for education, formation, prevention and autonomy)

Since 2009, Latitudes Contemporaines works with the Lille-based section of the ALEFPA (Association Laïque pour l’Éducation, la Formation, la Prévention et l’Autonomie), which accompanies children and teenagers who benefit from Social Childhood Aid and Legal Youth Protection in the social, scholar and professional integration.

This collaboration is rhythmed by three moments:

Each year, before the festival, Latitudes Contemporaines invites a group of teenagers to take part in a series of artistic workshops led by an invited artist. These phases of experimentation, of collective thinking and creation lead the group to conceive a short live performance, presented to the audience at the opening of the festival.

During the festival Latitudes Contemporaines invites a second group of teenagers accompanied by the ALEFPA to discover the different jobs that make the festival exist. Technical set up in the festival venues, catering preparation, artists and audience’s reception… The occasion to develop their professional abilities, and to gradually build up a carrer path during three weeks’ festivities.

Each year, the festival’s cultural action team invites several groups of teenagers accompanied by ALEFPA to discover a series of performances programmed during the festival. A collective experience, to get in touch with hybrid artworks in a personalized path.

Celebration of 10 years collaboration

In 2019, Latitudes Contemporaines celebrated 10 years of collaboration with the ALEFPA. The occasion to shed light on the variety of paths chosen by choses who took part in the artistic workshops and the professional immersions, and the richness of their experiences with the festival.

For this occasion, the maison Folie Wazemmes hosted the screening of an anniversary documentary, directed by the Collectif des Routes, partner of Latitudes Contemporaines. The night was also the occasion to replay the performance “En Lisière de nous”, created by the teenagers accompanied by ALEFPA and by the artist Benoît Duvette in 2019.
